Whether it is the thriving market due to population and industry influx or the recently added accessibility due to conveniently place bridges, Southern Indiana is booming. Along with the population, industry, and real estate influx, we are seeing an influx in the availability of food and entertainment.

There have been numerous new construction ground breakings all along Southern Indiana to keep up with its growing surroundings. The local restauranteurs are also taking full advantage of the thriving market.

Here are a few new-to-the-scene local restaurants that have something special to offer to make your trip over to Southern Indiana well worth the toll.

Gospel Bird

The Gospel Bird is a twist on all of the Southern Classics. Located in downtown New Albany, you can enjoy the very best fried chicken served locally. The chicken is the star of the show, however, the sides and other entree options are what have people raving. As a starter, try the Okra Winfrey. These pimento cheese okra poppers are not made with your grandma's pimento cheese. Foodies are also making the trip to sample one of the many different biscuit offerings. Order up the Hank, Merle, Willie, or Waylon biscuits. You can even try them all or share with your family (even though you may not want to share).

Brooklyn & The Butcher

Out of a builidng constructed in the late 1800's, this recent addition to New Albany's restaurant scene is one of a kind. In what was once an old hotel, Brooklyn & The Butcher has taken over the space and converted to a classic old-world New York complete with a speak-easy on the lower level of the restaurant. This classic menu offers rustic menu items with a high-class flare. Large cut steaks and small plates will wow you over and over with every trip. Be sure to also try out their homemade ketchup with your side of steak frites.

Pearl Street Taphouse

Located directly on Pearl St in Jeffersonville, this historic building has survived many years, as well as the 1937 flood. The owners have put many years and much time into restoring this old location to share their love for food and local craft beers. Stop in for both sophisticated and classic bar food to accompany the dozens of craft beer offerings.

The Hub Cafe

Right in the middle of Jeffersonville, tucked back on the corner of 10th Street and Penn, is a small house that is serving up some large flavor. They serve food with the principal that you should be able to eat the plate. With most menu items being served on what they call "urban bread". These "taco"-esque items include such offerings such as chicken, beef, pork, fish and vegan options. Stop in for lunch, or grab some to go. Just a few napkins is all you need!

Parlour...Coming Soon

Due to open any day now, this new Pizza & Beer spot seems to be creating quite the buzz. Deemed Jeffersonville's new "high-class" pizza joint, Parlour is already on its way to being quite successful. Located at the base of the Big Four Bridge in Jeffersonville, this restaurant will offer more than just a place for dinner. Its on-site beer garden will definitely be a hot spot this Spring and Summer with customers from both sides of the river. With a wide variety of menu items as well as cocktails, this new restuaurant venture seems quite exciting.
