Activerain Guiding Principles/Philosophy - Weltanschauung
Lynn Friedman Broker/Owner with Atlanta Homes ODAT Realty created a January Challenge for all of us to get a Blogging jump start for the year 2017. This January Challenge has been repeated now for several years. Thank you Lynn for your hard work of putting this together each year as I know it takes a large amount of your time and energy. As a side note this is not a re-blog of the Challenge but my entry.
Our task is to pick one of these Weltanschauung guiding principles which we feel enhances our time in Activerain and explain why this principle does just that.
I have read these guiding principles a several times in the past but it is alway a good idea to refresh one’s memory as time marches onward as memories fade. The main principle that speaks to me and enhances my time spent participating in this community and which comes close to my own thinking ( the rest are all good points ) is item number 3. .. “We believe in homeownership is a positive force for social good”.
I have always been a strong advocate for homeownership and this goes back many years before I ever became a Realtor. In my mind homeownership is a critical part of living and enjoying the American Dream. Think it builds stronger family identities and ties to the local community. Maybe I am an idealist when it comes to this but it is very important to me and close to my heart and soul.
I grew up living in in totally dumpy (best we could afford) apartments on the mean streets of Chicago’s West side. This was a very tough neighborhood for numerous reasons and there was crime all the time. I did develop excellent sense of street smarts which have helped many times during my lifetime avoid trouble and danger. I have experienced two home robberies in my life both in Chicago and one when I was 14 years old as walked in the crooks during the robbery. The criminals had my Dad’s gun plus bullets. In addition, I had a car stolen from right in front of my apartment. I also had a potential gang banger who wanted to stab me with a knife while he was sitting next to me on a elevated commuter train. This was part of gang initiation but my street smarts, strength and a Bic pen stopped him short! Lucky for me... I could also go on and on but will stop here..
My poor Mom never got to live in her own home but her ultimate dream was to own her own home. She was such a loving and wonderful Mother and plus person. She would have given the shirt off her back even though she had little to give anyone. When I got married and had children owning a home was a must goal that had to happen in my mind with no compromise whatsoever. My Mom I know is very happy for me and my family. She is smiling at me from heaven right now.
I still strongly believe and am a strong advocate for homeownership as something very critical for all folks to experience and enjoy. I think it is key component and anchor for any family to attain and certainly provides a huge social good. There is nothing like coming home to your home and being happy to be there with your family. I go on your many pages on this topic but I think I have made my point.
Home ownership is a very personal item for me and I believe it is a critical goal for all families to strive to attain. There is a large amount of pride which goes along with owning a home. Helping folks attain this goal gives me a lot of happiness and self satisfaction.
