This is another great blog that Newbies and people like me, need to be reading.
The word "Google" has become synonymous with doing an internet search. Whenever you have a question, want information about anything or want to buy something , don't you say "I'm going to Google that"? This is true even though there are many other search engines available.
In order to be successful as a real estate agent, I suggest you strive to become the Google of real estate in your market area. In my observation, there are too many agents in every market. That's why 87% of new licensees fail and drop out of the business within a couple of years. In order to survive and thrive in your market, you need to become THE source of information.
To become the Google of real estate agents in your market, whenever people want information about real estate in your town, they need to be able to find you and know you are the agent they need!
How do you go about making this happen? You do everything you can think of to become THE best source of information.
Where do you start? If I were starting over again, two very important things I would do is:
1. Become totally familiar with the inventory in your market place. Do this by previewing as many homes as possible each and every week, and make a point of attending the weekly broker tours, if they are held in your area. This will help you tremendously in pricing homes for sellers and also advising buyers on the value of a home they may be considering making an offer on. The confidence this will give you in dealing with buyers and sellers will be amazing.... priceless!
2. Blog daily. Blogging has many benefits. It is one powerful way of disseminating information to prospective clients. And, you know the adage about the teacher learning as much as the students? As you blog, you will become more aware of newsworthy items to blog about. You will learn. You will make an extra effort to learn as much as possible so you have more to write about. You will want to share what you know on your blog.
As you build your blog post archive, you will also be improving your search engine rankings. Over time, this will become a key ingredient to your success. Ideally, and eventually, when people do an internet search about real estate in your market area, your name and website and/or blog will pop up. You will become the Google within Google. Lest you think I may not know what I am talking about: When I was an active agent, blogging daily, I had 7 of the top 10 spots on page one of Google in my market area. I was THE Google (to the 7th power) over 400 real estate agents (and the nations largest franchises) in my market area.
Watch for an upcoming series of posts, dealing with ideas for disseminating information to prospective clients... that will make you the Google of agents in your market area.
