I was just out to a property that recently came off the market. In an attempt to possibly get the listing I decided I was going to be very bold and knock on the door.
Anyone who has gone "door knocking" can relate to the feeling of relief you get when there are no cars in the driveway and no lights on in the house. As you knock lightly on the door and no one answers you say to yourself, "Yes, no one home, at least I tried."
Well today was different. As I turned slowly onto the street, there it sat number 37. Just waiting for me. Oh yes and there were two cars in the driveway. There was no getting around this one. As I threw caution to the wind I knocked on the door. Two men answered. I announced that I was with Coldwell Banker and was interested in speaking with the homeowner. That's when it got interesting. It was like something you would see on 20/20 or NBC news. These two started giving me every bit of information and some I didn't even want to know. After about 5 minutes one of them asked "who are you?" I restated that I was with Coldwell Banker and off he went for another few minutes.
I learned when the owners moved in, what store he just drove to, what kind of car he drove, how old he was, his girlfriend's name, what she looked like and lots of other stuff. This was too much. I even found out who really owned the house and what they paid for it, why they wanted to sell it and if I wanted to come in for a beer. They also told me that they just moved in a bunch of stuff and they were leaving the door open until they got back if I wanted to wait in the house. After all, it was cold outside.
I kindly left and said I would stop by later.
I can't imagine what else I could have found out if I wanted to.
All I kept thinking was I hope none of my friends are as forthcoming with information.
Has anyone ever had a similar experience?
