In the 60 & 70’s we all “Enjoyed” our avocado green and harvest gold appliances. We all knew someone, or maybe it was us, that had a great shag carpet. Luxurious! And remember the wallpapers that included fuzzy areas? These design trends mostly ran their course, thankfully.
I believe the next design trend to bite the dust is the color Gold. When my home was built in the mid 90’s, gold was put everywhere. I had gold door knobs. Gold hinges, gold shower surround, gold light fixtures. Last year I started an active campaign to rid my home of gold. Now I have mostly oiled bronze. I spent much gold to make this happen. It should be good for at least another year or so.
I find myself not only peering around doors to make sure they are brushed nickel, not gold, and occasionally finding that dreaded gold. This forces a frenzied trip to the local big box store to buy another bag of hardware. I must stamp out that gold!
When I tour homes, one of the things I look for are the 90’s gold items. My clients may hear me grumble when we walk into the master bath and find ourselves surrounded by all that gold. It might even have the second dreaded design issue…Wallpaper!
Please, do the world a huge favor and stamp out these issues once and for all. No gold unless it is REAL GOLD! Wallpaper should go as well. Spend your time and money on the new trends that should last weeks if not months. Your friends and neighbors, not to mention your friendly real estate agents, will appreciate your efforts.
