Alt Karlsbad Haus Mineral Spa in Carlsbad

Treatment Room at the Carlsbad Mineral Spa in Carlsbad Village

Mineral springs were discovered in what is now Carlsbad back in 1882 by a sea captain named John Frazier where the Alt Karlsbad Haus sits. It's now a California historic site and monument. You can still buy artesian alkaline mineral water here at a kiosk - bring your own container. A statue of Capt. Frazier stands nearby.

The Carlsbad Mineral Springs Spa is located in the Alt Karlsbad Haus on the Coast Road/Carlsbad Boulevard, in Carlsbad Village, where you can have massages, facials, and mineral baths in one of 3 treatment rooms. We haven't done that yet...some day perhaps...but we did get a tour a few years back just for fun. This was our favorite - I believe it was called the Egyptian Cleopatra Room!

The mineral water is well knows, sold locally in a number of store, and is used by the local Gaia Gelato store in their delicious gelato, and perhaps by other eateries as well.

Hi Jeff Dowler I always figured that there must be a spa because of the name "Carlsbad." But I didn't know where it was. Now I will check it out.

Thanks.

Good morning, Jeff -- I had heard about this place but never stopped.   Another place to add to that always expanding must-see-list.

Hi Bill Roberts  - good to hear from you. It's a pretty cool building that you no doubt have been by many times. I have no idea how busy the place is, fees, how good they are, etc.

Michael Jacobs  - there is certainly lots to explore here, as there is in Pasadena!

Hi Jeff Dowler - This is something I didn't know about Carlsbad!  Thanks for sharing this info about the hot springs. I have been to the hot springs in Desert Hot Springs and Corona!  Very interesting.

Hi Sheri Sperry - MCNE®

It's a pretty cool building and an interesting part of Carlsbad's history and being right on the main drag it's pretty obvious!

We have a fair amount of hot springs in my area. Are your mineral springs hot? I love soaking in them. We also have vapor caves and that is a very purifying experience.

Hi Debbie Laity  - they are not hot springs, just mineral water! I've not done the hot springs thing anywhere, yet.

Noah Seidenberg  - a massage sounds pretty good to me right now. Have been helping my daughter and her husband with their move in LA and the body feels it!

Alexander- Slocum  - John and Kat - sounds like a plan. I sure could use a massage right now. We'll see.

Dorie Dillard  - the history part is pretty cool. I have always admired the building but hadn't been inside until a few years ago.

That's some interesting history for your area.  I have heard of the caves, so it makes sense there would also be mineral springs.
