Main Line Secrets

This series of posts is about places or events going on that many just are not aware of. Today, this Main Line Realtor wants to share one of our favorite places. It in truth is not that much of a secret to many Main Line residents, but often those from outside of the area may miss it.

Chanticleer Gardens in Wayne is a wonderful English style garden. Originally the estate of Adolph Rosengarten, Sr and his wife Christine it is filled with beautiful natural flowers and trees. You can follow Chanticleer on Facebook. We never leave Chanticleer without some idea for our own yard, be it some form of rope edging, the way a path is constructed or a collection of plants placed together. There are formal gardens, water features, woodland, you name it there seems to be an example of it to be enjoyed. The garden opens on March 29th for the 2017 season and you can purchase season passes now. Enjoy this video we filmed from a previous season.

A nice feature is Friday evenings you can bring a picnic and some wine and this is enjoyed by many local residents, in fact the parking lot is often overflowing that there is a traffic jam approaching the gardens.

Chanticleer can be enjoyed through out the season, and it is a wonderful place to walk and enjoy the views. The ponds are stocked with Koi which children enjoy and seem to sit fascinated for hours watching them swim around. There are plenty of places for parents and adults to sit throughout the gardens.

There is an English style Folly, a ruined building with a water table and sculptural heads around which multiple flowers grow.

Chanticleer Ruins

Another lovely feature is the bridge over the stream, only later do you realize it resembles a fallen trunk, although that wasp nest looks awfully realistic but it is there to hold the plant list. Once across the bridge you can walk though a very natural wooded area alongside the stream.

Look out for more posts through the year as we share our favorite places to enjoy along the Main Line. It may be a new restaurant,  a small coffee shop or even a hidden town ship park. These Main Line Secrets are what makes living on the Main Line such a joy.

Hi Nick and Trucy

I really enjoyed reading about this, being a former Main Line resident many years ago. Alas I never visited but certainly was familiar with these gardens. I bet Main Line residents not aware of these gardens appreciate this virtual visit.

Jeff Dowler we actually prefer it to Longwood Gardens which is much better known.
