I'm sure most of you have heard of all the top whatever lists that the beautiful Greenville, South Carolina is making, if you haven't, just google the city and see what #yeathatgreenville has been up to. It's pretty amazing if you consider where our beloved european style city used to be 15-20 years ago.
Third best downtown, number two park in the country, number seven in places to visit in the country, top ten in city transformations, top ten in prettiest southern streets, top ten in free things to do, Fluor Field named best professional basebal field, best city for start up companies, highest in the country for manufacturing growth, third most popular state to move to and I could go on and on and on and.......well you get it.
Lets talk about one of those lists, what makes Greenville hit the top ten list for free things to do around the city? Lets start with the 32 acre park, smack dab in the middle of our main street. Great for family outings for picnics, frisbee games, dog walking, waterfall viewing on the famous Liberty Bridge and bike riding, Falls Park is truly one of a kind. That gets us into another free and family friendly activity, the Swamp Rabbit Trail. The Swamp Rabbit Trail is a 19.9 mile multi use rail trail that runs from downtown Greenville to Travelers Rest and there is talk of expanding. This also is why Greenville is amongst one of the healthiest places to live in the country. As your riding away from Travelers Rest on the Swamp Rabbit Trail, you will bump into Cleveland Park, which is the largest park in Greenville at around 120 acres of greenway and runs along the Reedy River. With tennis and vollyball courts, pavillions and childrens playgrounds and walking paths scattered around the acreage, this park is also perfect for free and fun family activities. Right next to cleveland park is the Greenville Zoo. It is a 14 acre zoo so it's a good quick hour to hour and a half activity for the kiddos. Other fun activities include the Upcountry History Museum, Roper Mountain Science Center, Lake Conestee Naure Park, Paris Mountain State Park, The Children's Museum of the Upstate, Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum, Historic West End Art Galleries and the numerous historical homes. This list could just keep going.
In short, if you are looking for things to do as a local, looking for a place to move or just explore a new city, come find out why Greenville is making such a ripple in the travel community and is worth checking out.
