A little shack in the jungle on Maui - that's all I want!

I hear it a lot from prospective buyers... I just want a little shack in the jungle on Maui.  Nothing fancy, just a roof over my head.  With some land to grow some veggies, and a few fruit trees.  Maybe a stream would be nice too...

Well it's not that easy to find, but be prepared to pay $400,000 or more it you do. They do come on the market from time to time, but I can tell you they won't be this cute and adorable.  Chances are pretty good you'll need to pay with cash due to the condition of the house.

With the new average Maui home price at $700,000 it's going to be even harder to find a little shack in the jungle with any amount of land.  I can find you a "cheap" shack in town, but that's not the same as living in the country is it?

These cute pictures were taken at the Maui Tropical Plantation, in Waikapu, so these houses are not for sale.  But I get what you're saying.  The image of a home like this is very appealing.  Sort of like a tiny home!

I would prefer a little cabin up in the north woods. More my style but to each their own.

William Feela I'd like that too!  At least until the snow flies and then I'd be packing for Maui.  Thanks for dropping by.

I could spend the rest of my life in one of those little cabins, and be very happy!  Life is wonderful in its simplest form!

Now that would be heavenly.. would love to live in a place where the climate is warm all year round.. I have never liked winter, even as a young child.. and as each year passes I dislike it even more...

Hi Georgie

No doubt this wish is heard from time to time, and there is nothing like a does of reality regarding what you have to pay to get that little shack in the jungle! It's nice to dream but at some point you have to open your eyes! Clever post!

Georgie Hunter R(S) 58089 - Okay.... now that my dream is shot, could I settle for just a spot on the beach to lay my blanket with a beach umbrella over my head for a retirement plan?

Good morning again Georgie. Nice post. I'd like a little shack like this but as you say, this isn't for sale.

As I have gotten older my need for large homes has diminished. The pictures you show would be my idea of a good place to be.

The one little shack, Georgie, reminded me of the nursery rhyme: There was an old woman who lived in a shoe. She had so many children she didn't know what to do....' I agree with some of the comments that as I get older I want a 'tiny' house; no longer a 13 bedroom, 10,000 square feet mansion.
