I have been a part of the Active Rain community for seven months. I initially decided to 'check-it-out' since it was mentioned in passing in a class I was taking. I plunged right in and posted my first blog immediately and was greeted with an extremely warm welcome from the Active Rain community.
To those that have chosen to make Active Rain a part of their daily diet, the community guidelines are simply an extension of their core character. Bullet points such as "do not personally attack another person" or "do not slander another person" are not merely words upon a list of 'do's and don'ts, no, these words go much deeper and convey the true meaning of 'community.'
The purpose of establishing 'guidelines' within any 'community' is to create a 'safe-zone' and 'mutual understanding' among all. Once an atmosphere of trust has been laid as the foundation, the environment can build a forum that promotes candid questioning and open dialogue which is pivotal for one to truly grow and furthermore, flourish. Guidelines are established as a means to encourage the wide array of diverse thoughts and ideologies while preserving the integrity of mutual respect.
