909 W Arch rock home restored

The house is almost finished in this photograph.  ( Pardon the debris on the side of the street waiting to be carried away.)   Terri Tarkington Milligan fell in love with this older home that had fallen into tough times.  Here's the way it did look.  If you walked under those trees the house was in terrible condition.

909 W Arch before revival

The house is located at 909 West Arch and has the pleasing combination of native stone and brick construction.  If you'd like, google Silas Owens who has become quite famous for his work in this type construction.  I also have done another blog or two about these houses in Searcy AR.  West Arch Street in Searcy still has a lot of the old homes that made up Searcy many years ago and it is always a pleasure to see one loved and revived.  The old house is now a HOME again.

Thanks, Terri Tarkington Milligan!!

I'm SO glad this house is getting some TLC. I live on West Arch and I've always given this particular home a wide berth when I've walked past it. It was shady/sketchy inside and outside.

To me, there's something jarring about the squared off entry. It begs to be left curved IMHO.

Here's the way I would do it.

Angela, you will no longer have to avoid the house.  It is back into wonderful occupants!  Thanks to Terri!

Don, I thought the squared off entry was different and I have not seen it before on any of the rock houses.  It looks pretty neat but I did think it would be nice of you to remove the debris in the front yard!   Also the squared off entry comes forward a little ways.

Perfect!  Dadgummit it.  I should have asked you to do that before I blogged.  You are a whiz kid still.
