Mark your calendars! It is nearly that time of year once again to usher in one of the Manatee County Area's most popular annual events. The Cortez Fishing Festival!
Started in 1981 to celebrate the long commercial fishing history of the Cortez Fishing Fleet, this event has now grown from its original 500 attendess to now over 25,000 and growing more every year!
There will be numerous food vendors offering local favorites, like smoked mullet and grouper delights. It entertain, there will be several live bands providing plenty of opportunities to work off all those calories by dancing the day away.
I formerly lived on my sailboat in Cortez and can tell you that the early birds find the best parking spots. This is not an event to miss and there is something that every member of your family will enjoy.
Admission to the festival is $3; children under 12 are free. Festival proceeds are used by the Florida Institute for Saltwater Heritage (FISH) to expand and restore the 95-acre FISH Preserve east of the village on Sarasota Bay
