I represented the buyer in this transaction. This is the second purchase we worked on together in Somerset, CO.
There are more homes available in and around the Somerset area. Give me a call for more information on those properties. Two of them have a riverfront location.
Somerset is one of those towns that's nothing more than a small dot on the map. There are less than 130 people that live there. The town does have a post office, library and a cafe/bar that's closed more often than it's open. The North Fork of the Gunnison River runs through the town and it's surrounded very closely by rugged mountains.
At one time this was a company town. Coal mining was big, and the homes were put up to house the miners. Coal mining kept this town going until just a few years ago. The Oxbow Mine shut down, and the long wall removed. The mine isn't likely to open up again.
I don't think this is going to mean the death of Somerset. What it does mean is the town will remain quiet, peaceful and relatively unknown. Those looking for an inexpensive mountain home surrounded by great scenery will find this town a wonderful place to call home. The opportunity to enjoy almost unlimited outdoor activities is there...or you can kick back and enjoy the mountain views.
This small mountain town is really in Gunnison County, but it seems like it belongs to Delta County. Very high, steep mountains separate Somerset from the rest of the county. It sits on Highway 133 at the base of McClure Pass. Kebler Pass is the quickest way to get to the county seat, but it's only open a few months out of the year due to heavy winter snows.
Contact me for more information on the Somerset homes that are available. I look forward to hearing from you.
I've lived on Colorado's Western Slope for over 26 years. I love this area and all it has to offer, and I enjoy sharing what I know about my home. As a REALTOR®, I also love to share my expertise in this area as well. If you need real estate information for Montrose County, or Delta County, Colorado...please give me a call.
