With so many real estate agents in each city, how do you possibly decide who to work with? You probably know someone who is a real estate agent, or have a friend of a friend who is one. That doesn’t necessarily mean you should work with them. When you are making the decision to sell your home, it’s important to make sure you are working with the right person. Someone who is looking out for your best interest, who will give you helpful advice, answer questions (no matter how many you have!) and make selling your home a priority.
Some things to keep in mind when choosing the right real estate agent...
1. HOW LONG HAVE THEY BEEN IN BUSINESS?
This doesn't necessarily mean you want to pick the agent who has been around the longest! However experience can be a big plus when working with an agent. They know the process and all the paperwork that goes into buying or selling home. They also have probably seen a little bit of everything and can be helpful with solving the problems that inevitably come up. Don't rule out new agents! They are always the most eager to work hard for you and are often more available for showings, questions, etc. The best part of choosing an agent from our office (you know we have to recommend our own agents!) is that we offer the best of both. We have agents who have been in the business 20+ years and those who just recently embarked on this career. However, they all work together with the newer agents gaining knowledge and asking questions of the more seasoned agents.
2. TALK TO PREVIOUS CLIENTS
Word of mouth is huge in any business, so real estate is no exception. Talking to clients who have worked with a particular agent in the past is a great way to find out if they will be the right fit for you. Ask them about their experience with the agent, how easy the agent was to get in touch with and if they would consider using them again. Reviews like this will give valuable insight into actually working with the person, not just what the agent says about themselves on their profile page!
3. CHECK OUT THEIR CURRENT LISTINGS
If you are selling your home, it's important to know how the agent plans to market your property. Of course they will probably let you know of all the things they plan to do, but looking at actual listings they have will show you how they really market and advertise a home. Check it out on websites, social media and any print advertising they may do. This will quickly give you an idea if this is how you want your home represented on the market.
