Tax Season - an Opportunity to Reconnect With Customers!

Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams - homes for sale - Florida - Gulf - Beach

Tax season is either a great time of year or a huge headache, depending on individual circumstances.  Some people are thrilled to get that refund, while others dread the inevitible check they'll have to write to the IRS.  Whichever side of the spectrum you fall on, it can be a great time to reconnect with prior customers and showcase your willingness to go above and beyond for them!

How many of your customers last year were first-time buyers?  Hopefully you've kept a list or a file handy with the names and contact information for your 2016 customers!  If so, take a look and see how many of those clients were first time buyers, or buyers who haven't bought a home in the past 20 years.  Chances are, many of these folks are unaware of the ins and outs of writing off home interest, and how to file a homestead exemption.

This is the perfect time to send out an informative mailout!  It doesn't take long at all to gather this type of information from various online resources and put together a handy newsletter or checklist to mail out to your past clients!  Try to keep the info as short and to the point as possible, and write from the viewpoint of someone who is not in the home industry so that it's easy to understand.  While some customers may already know exactly what forms to file and where to get them, the ones that don't will be singing your praises for the surprise help!

Just remember - a happy customer is likely to give you referrals!  There is no such thing as too much knowledge, and even those people who have all their ducks in a row will be impressed by your dedication to excellent service and continued relationships!

As a Mortgage lender since 1995, I have always purchased Turbo Tax or other to quickly create income tax returns for my clients. They truly like this especially at no cost to them. Of Course this Free service comes with a fully transacted Mortgage. So here are the numbers: I have averaged about 5.5 extra transactions since doing this during the months of February and April only.

Buyers during the past year often pack up their documents and forget where they put them. Sending a copy of the closing statement could be very happily received.

Thanks for the tips.

Joel,  I have never thought of "tax time" as a good time to reach out to old sales and prospects - before now.  I think I will give it a second look.

Thanks for the "tip"
