Delray Beach- That Smile…
In the 70’s, I was guaranteed a smile and a chuckle at least once a week on Saturday nights. If you were a fan of Mary Tyler Moore then you’ve probably been humming the song … You’re going to make it after all… since the news of her passing.
Sometimes you have to get to know someone really well to realize you're really strangers. Mary Tyler Moore
Before Mary Richards, there was Laura Petrie. One of my favorite episodes was when she disclosed to the world that her husband’s boss, Alan Brady/Carl Reiner was bald.
Take chances, make mistakes. That's how you grow. Pain nourishes your courage. You have to fail in order to practice being brave. Mary Tyler Moore
And, don’t forget the big M on Mary’s wall. She even hung it up when she moved to a new apartment. We all ran out and bought our own initials for our walls.
Having a dream is what keeps you alive. Overcoming the challenges makes life worth living. Mary Tyler Moore
One line I will always remember didn’t come from Mary but from Lou Grant/Ed Asner and was directed to her:
Lou: You’ve got spunk.
Lou: I hate spunk!
Whatever it is, it’s OK because it’s what it is. Don’t be looking for perfection. Don’t be short-tempered with yourself. And you’ll be a whole lot nicer to be around with everyone else. Mary Tyler Moore
So, to the woman who showed us that the next step out of college did not have to be marriage and that focusing on a career did not mean that you were a shark incapable of relationships...I will miss you.
Have a weekend full of SMILES!
