For the love of Rudolph, please take down the decorations

Christmas was a wonderful day!

Bye Bye Santa Claus Christmas is over

and now it's over...

Time to take Santa off the roof and Frosty off the front porch. Rudolph and Santa's reindeer worked hard at Christmas, isn't it time they had a rest, in the storage room, until next year?

We spent the afternoon with home buyers looking at houses in Ellicott City & Caroll county Maryland. We were all a little surprised to see Christmas decorations displayed on front lawns, rooftops, and front porches. Our buyers asked if the holiday decorations meant that neighbors were going to be messy all year round! Good question!

It's been a busy January, with the Presidential election, Women's March and all the excitement that goes along with living close to Washington D.C.

Maybe this is why we are still seeing so much holiday spirit in late January!

If you still have Santa, Rudolph and the gang in your yard, do your neighbor a favor and put them away till Christmas 2017!!  An attractive clean yard will be much more appealing to potential new neighbors. If you think you will miss the holiday color, consider dressing up the front door with a beautiful red wreath for Valentine's Day. The color will brighten the house and keep your spirits up until Spring!

Sam Shueh and Pat Starnes some folks (the lights up all year and the spider web family) give us an opportunity to develop patience. We have a few neighbors like that but that's what happens when you don't live in a community with an HOA. Ah well!

Unless the weather is so prohibitive that removal is impossible, the decorations should be gone.  Otherwise it does seem indicative of overall care and maintenance of the home being viewed ...

Only about a week ago I was startled to drive past a home and notice the lighted Christmas tree still shining through the living room windows. Since this is a couple who flaunts their wealth, I decided that perhaps they'd gone off on a winter holiday and forgotten to tell the hired help to take it down.

Hi Victoria and Marshall - very good points here.  If you are messy in some things you will be messy in all.

There are still homes here that are decorated and the lights come on at night! When there are no CCRs to drive the community, almost anything goes. Good point and good post, congrats on both features! Saw this on Kathy Streib's weekly Ah-Ha moments post.

The sad thing is we can kind of control our listings, but the neighbors... not so much.  I have a crazy neighbor who has Christmas lights on an outside tree all stinkin year long.  Not very noticable in the day time, but if they do a night time drive by... yikes.

Agreed Gene Mundt, IL/WI Mortgage Originator - FHA/VA/Conv/Jumbo/Portfolio/Refi looks like the home owners are not staying on top of the home care! Marte Cliff that's a funny observation about the home owners being away. Hopefully they'll get the decorations down by Valentines Day!

Excellent point to make Grant Schneider it does reflect on the care of the home. Sharon Tara and Joanna Cohlan it makes sense that this would be a pet peeve:) I cannot stand seeing messy yards and this stuff makes me a little bonkers too but it does inspire me to write about it!

Hi Tammy Lankford, and this is exactly how we came about writing this blog. Our buyers looked at the old decorations as a sign of neighbors not keeping up their home and yards.

Thanks for reading our blog! Have a wonderful week!

There is one house in my area that leaves Christmas lights strung on the trees and the house all year long. I'm thinking they just don't want to have to climb the trees and go on the roof to remove them?
