YEP the Fortune IS in the Follow Up

We've all heard the saying "the fortune is in the follow up" hundreds of times and yet I possibly missed out on a listing because I failed to follow-up this time. I met a couple at an open house right before the holidays and they asked me to contact them about discussing a possible sale of their home.

I called once to thank them for coming to the open house and the husband was busy so I called again within a week and the wife had been ill in the hospital and they were recuperating and asked me to call back. 

Sooooo I blamed it on the holidays and I blamed it on my leaving them alone while they were recuperating, however none of those things was a factor. It was my own failure by not adding them to my database and setting myself a task to follow up.

Well, guess what came on the market this week? Yes their home did and with another agent who probably did her follow up. Maybe we might have been competitors for the listing but I will never know since I didn't even compete.

On a brighter note I did just get an accepted contract on a home for some great people I've been following up with and nurturing since May of 2016!

This was an expensive lesson to learn that I believe I won't make again any time soon.  Has this ever happened to you?

Of course, we all make that mistake.. I made it several times in my early years as a realtor, but I always follow up on any kind of lead... you never know where your business is coming from...
