WARNING: Scam on Female Real Estate Agents

By
Real Estate Agent with Opes Real Estate Group 3370985

Yesterday I received a text from an unknown number "Hello". I asked who it was and they replied with the name of a fellow agent who is a friend of mine on Facebook. I was suspicious but wanted to know what it was about so I replied and asked what was up. (My friend has a 786 area code and this was a 305 area code). In addition, they misspelled her last name with an extra letter at the end.

The texter went on to say they were working with some high-end clients, needed help and asking what I was doing that day. I said "sure" and they went on to explain they were working with Marlins players and they tended to be "wild" so they wanted a sexy girlfriend to help. They said "they like how you look".

I said I was busy and what exactly were they asking and who was this really... they stopped reply. Meanwhile, I message my friend and turns out she gets the same exact messages all the time. I belong to a group on Facebook for ladies in real estate and posted a warning. Apparently, this is happening all over with almost identical verbiage being used.

I have reported this to the Miami Association of REALTORS and spreading the word here as well. I am not sure what the end result is supposed to be and wondering if anyone has any further information. In the meantime, I find this rather disturbing because this person obviously knows my friend.

Any help would be appreciated and please spread the word!!!!! I have Googled this and find nothing.

Lisa, this is so disturbing we are targeted just because we sell real estate.  Thanks for the heads up, had not heard this happening around here.

The scam is sophisticated enough that an agent real name, even a phone number similar to the real one is there.  It tells you where you can your leads from. Once you call the phone # it will tell you she is out showing homes but get on her website for leads. Once you click it you are exposed to.....  A few agents will tell you their name has been compromised. Others do not give a hoot....

So, what is the goal? They obviously want to meet you or get you somewhere.

That is so weird.  But what professional would respond well to "they want a sexy girlfriend to help?"  Creepy. -Kasey

Apparently it is happening all over and with the same "I have a "wild" high-end client I need help with"... so bizarre because I wonder what the end goal is.
