Words to Live By in the Pursuit of Perfection

Real Estate Agent with Opes Real Estate Group 3370985

It's easy to get anxiously wrapped up into a tight ball of pressure in the pursuit of perfection. Many times I would skip meals and found myself working 14-16 hour days trying to do my "day" job and get my first client in real estate. Not to mention racking up points here on AR! I was seriously stressed and didn't know it. Until 2 weeks ago I got a cold that literally kicked my butt. I was forced to slow down, rest and take a break. I am just now getting back to normal but I learned a valuable lesson.

During this time I learned to relax, take a breath and not overthink all of this. I no longer beat myself if I miss a day of blogging, don't have that lead call me back and actually went back to the gym. A friend shared this with me and I keep it near as a daily reminder:

Lisa, we can't adequately represent our real estate clients if we are not in good health, and don't have a clear and sharp mind free from stress!  I know what you mean about being run down with a cold.  I finally shook a bad cold from the Holidays and it was the first time I was sick in SIX years  since retiring from teaching.  We have to MAKE time from our busy day so we can keep ourselves healthy and stress free!

Absolutely correct! Thanks for stopping by and hope it's 6 more years for you! It was a horrible cold I had and was not fun.

Love that piece of advice!  We work in an industry where the work is truly never done.  We just have to know when it's enough for one day.

Hi Lisa- I think that cold was going around South Florida because my husband and I had it, as did several others I've spoken with.  I've learned that life goes on and that if we miss commenting on someone's post or miss writing one day...it will be ok.

Lisa Hernandez we sometimes feel we are more productive firing on all cylinderes while under pressure. The truth is, we all need rest or our work suffers. I'm sorry you were sick, but I hope you are learning the importance of caring for yourself and resting!

Hi Lisa - you've learned an important lesson. I work hard to maintain balance in my life. I've discovered that when I take care of myself (proper exercise, social engagements, family time) I'm more effective in work, too. I'm glad that cold is something in your past, but the lesson isn't.

That's the key point, we are more effective when we're taking care of ourselves. Thanks for the encouragment.

Lisa, there are things we have to do...continually preparing for the future of our business and much is routine, but much is one day at a time. This business can easily consume you if you let it.
