Aurora CO  was recently awarded gold medals for all five health and wellness goals that the National League of Cities outlines in its localized adaptation of former first lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative. The program, called Let’s Move! Cities, Towns and Counties, encourages officials to develop healthy living and early childhood education programs.

“This is the first year that we’ve received all five gold medals,” said Erin O’Neill, spokeswoman for Aurora Parks, Recreation and Open Space. “We’ve participated in the program for about four years now, and achieving gold status in all five categories was due to a combination of things that (Aurora has done) to create healthy options for kids.”

According to a recent article in the Denver Post this week,  Aurora is making strides in providing its youngest residents with better access to nutrition and wellness programs all over the city thanks in part to its participation in a national campaign against childhood obesity.
