Chase a mouse, or chase a gazelle?
The Lion wakes in the morning and knows he must feed himself and his Pride today. If the Lion chooses to chase field mice for food he’ll need to chase and catch A LOT of mice to fill his hunger, and, at the end of the day he will still be hungry because of the energy he had to expend to catch those mice. And those little mice didn’t feed his Pride (the Lions’s social circle of 5 female, 2 male and the young).
If the Lion however chases a Gazelle, the chase may be a bit more difficult, but the reward so, so great. The Gazelle will provide the Lion and his Pride with food for several days. No one will go hungry, and in fact they may have time to stretch and relax in the sun.
So, in my business, will I chase mice? A lot small “mice” may cover my expenses, but will they ever allow me to grow and do more? If I chase the larger “Gazelle”, I may have to work a bit harder and get out of my comfort zone, but the reward will not only cover my expenses, it will feed my household, and allow me to do so much more for my family, my church, and those other causes I support—my Pride.
Starting today, I’ll still be chasing some mice, but I am going to be working smarter and faster to catch myself a few Gazelle very soon.
