When I sat in a large real estate office in a DFW TX suburb 10 years ago (I'm independent now, broker of a small family of firms in N. Central Texas) I used to laugh as agents would excitedly spring from their office chairs and exclaim,
"NEVER! I have never! In 30 years of real estate, I have never....."
This near daily occurance never ceased to amaze and entertain me. It made me laugh out loud. It made me think. It taught me countless lessons -- each "proclomation" served as interesting education. It illustrates -- to this day -- how unique our career path really is. When you can do your job for 30 years and still experience firsts on a regular basis, that is one unique career path!
I have been in real estate since 2003, a little over 14 years. This is not long in "Realtor years" (it's nothing like counting dog years, we live much longer despite some occasional dog house treatment!) because a lot of my friends have been in real estate longer than I have been alive! It's really impressive. The wisdom. The stamina. The dedication to homeownership. The putting up with a lot of poopoo and changes staying power.
Today was a first. 14 years, I have never...
Someone asked me about a home in another state. I have no idea what lead to it, but it happened. I have never had a caller ask me about a house outside of Texas. Isn't Texas a big enough area to cover?! Lordy.
Yesterday was a first. I had a disclosure notice with an onsite death -- murder in self defense. First.
And tomorow will probably bring another first. Yes. That's how common it is. Everyday is a new day with new, interesting facts and discoveries in real esteate... And I never tire of it. Not that part!
