I went to lunch with some of my coworkers to celebrate my birthday today. I had been trying to figure out where I wanted to go to lunch for the past few days - figuring out details such as the party size down to when we were all leaving. Last-minute reservations aren't easy, but that's just how I roll and it all works out in the end.
Zillow Tower is located in Downtown Seattle right next to the Seattle Art Museum. Needless to say, there are several great dining options around. I've been working in Zillow's HQ for nearly two years now and have eaten at almost every worthwhile restaurant within a three block radius.
Although I wanted to try something new, I settled with an old classic: Von's 1000Spirits Gustobistro on 1st Ave, just around the corner. I have been to this restaurant numerous times and have tried so much of their menu that I am able to make some serious recommendations to newbies (ALWAYS get the pesto pasta with the chicken AND the mushrooms if you have an appetite - and even if you don't, the leftovers are amazing and competely worth it; get the salmon salad if you're watching your waistline...it's seriously that good).
One of my sneaky co-workers told our waiter that it was my birthday, so when I had this gold candle set down in front of me and it was ignited with sparkling embers, I was taken back and pleasantly surprised at the fun gesture (and complimentary birthday treat - that enormous fluffy cloud of cotton candy atop some velvety ice cream and brownie cake!). This girl feels special.
That, and incredibly full. I got the Quattre Viande pizza and also had some bites of my amazing little dessert. I am stuffed - but with more than just food. Camaraderie. Von's, thank you for an excellent birthday lunch. You'll always be my favorite lunch spot. <3
