Leave the magnets on the Fridge or take them off when selling a home

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Godzyk Real Estate Services NH License 033394

What would you do? Take the magnets off or Leave the magnets on when listing your home?  This seller removed theirs. There is a great debate about leaving a home personable or removing all signs of who lives there. The time spent perhaps could have been used better on this Manchester NH area home to get it clean?

This home was built in 1835. It was last redone in the 1970's. It is one thing to be dated, but another to be dirty. Everything was left dirty. I was not the original listing agent.

Had I been, I tell all my sellers how best to get their home ready to sell. Some times it does not take money, but time and elbow grease to well, remove the grease and dirt.

IT IS OK TO SAY A HOME NEEDS WORK. There are many buyers looking fo rfixer uppers. Those looking for a deal getting a fix up loan to make theirs. Then there are also cash buyers ready to buy, fix and re sell it.

Many sellers do not know if they can even sell their home if it needs work. They sure can and in NH, we can help.

IN THE END: All Agents are not created equal and every buyer or seller should take the time to hire the BEST not just the biggest. By using a philosophy, which is simple, to provide more personal and professional service to guide my clients through each step of the buying or selling process, I can help you find your dream home or sell your property. Your agent can stand behind you and assist with obstacles such as this.

Hi Scott... that may be one of the most disgusting pictures I've seen yet... and are you telling me that people kept food they ate in this fridge? I'd hate to see the inside of it!

That's another dilemma that we face when listing a home and when you see a refrigerator that is used as the central communication outlet. Many of the items on refrigerators are no longer applicable.  By the looks of your picture the magnets were the only thing showing the original color of the refrigerator 😀@

My pet peeve is magnets on the fridge, but this may be the biggest pet peeve of all. Would you eat food from this fridge?

Generally, I'd say remove the magnets to give a cleaner look. . .But, leaving the grease and dirt behind is worse than the magnets.

Hi Scott - That's one where maybe the baby gets thrown out with the bathwater - that fridge isn't exactly a feature.

I have always disliked a lot of junk in my fridge and you showed what can happen. I say don't ever put it on.

This might be the first post about the refrigerator magnets that I've ever seen in general. Way to innovate a title!

Investors couldn't care less about the grease or the magnets. Everything gets thrown out so, BEST price is their concern...

The magnets have to go and especially during the photo session. Magnets are such a distraction. We want buyers looking at the house not the personal items.

The least they could have done was wash the front after they took them off. Although that front may then have been the cleanest area in the home
