Oakland Township, Michigan is a wonderful location to live. A northern suburb of Detroit, Oakland Township has the best of both worlds: a rural atmosphere, but close proximity to downtown Rochester and the entertainment and cultural events in Detroit.
Oakland Township students are served by three different public school districts, Rochester, Romeo, and Lake Orion, depending on where in the township the students live. While Lake Orion and Romeo schools accept students who live outside of their districts, Rochester Community Schools only enrolls students who live within its boundaries. Rochester Adams High Schools is the first Michigan high school to be nominated for the prestigious National Blue Ribbon award.
Eagle Creek Academy is a private K-8 school located in the northwest section of the township. There are also numerous private pre-schools throughout Oakland Township.
Residents of Oakland Township enjoy its 17 parks. Six of the parks are undeveloped conservation areas, and the remaining include recreation facilities. If you’re interested in learning the sport of archery, you can take lessons through the Oakland Township Parks and Recreation department. Other activities include fishing, kayak rental, ice skating lessons, and soccer lessons, as well an outdoor summer concert series.
There are also multiple public and private golf courses in Oakland Township. Twin Lakes Golf and Swim club offers a swim team for children, and golf lessons for children and adults.
Oakland Township residents help support the Rochester Hills Public Library, and are invited to apply for a library card. RHPL also has a bookmobile that parks at several locations in Oakland Township each week.
