Trees are a valuable resource in the city and countryside. Currently, only 5.2% of our Reno community provides a "tree canopy". That is nowhere near enough foliage for Reno to reap the benefits that trees provide. The ReLeaf Reno Project wants to make sure we have a multitude of healthy trees in our urban environment. But our City needs your help to make this happen.
Benefits of Trees in an Urban Setting
Trees offer more than something pretty to look at. They filter pollutants out of the air. They remove carbon dioxide while replenishing oxygen into the air. Trees offer shade against the sun's heat, which, in turn, cuts costs for cooling off Reno homes. Residential trees boost home values. Trees also recharge our groundwater and help reduce stormwater run-off. In fact, more trees might have helped relieve some of the excess rain we experienced lately that has now become flooding in parts of the Reno area.
What is the ReLeaf Reno Project?
The ReLeaf Reno Project wants to expand our urban tree canopy. Right now, they spend approximately $2 per capita planting and caring for Reno trees. You can help increase their efforts by doing one or more of the following three things. First, make a monetary donation to the ReLeaf Reno Project. Any amount helps and will go directly to planting and maintaining more trees in our Reno community. You can make a one-time donation or set up a monthly recurring donation if you would prefer. Next, you can simply take care of the trees currently occupying your Reno property. Make sure they are pruned regularly and properly watered. Finally, plant new trees on your property. Keep them well groomed and maintained so that they flourish and thrive.
Everyone can do something to increase our city's tree canopy. How will you be contributing to the ReLeaf Reno project?
