Services for Real Estate Pros with Agent Reputation

I believe blogging needs to be a Realtor's best friend whether here on Active Rain or your own blog on your real estate website.

Active blogging can be a game changer, especially if you have a blog built into your website. Most of you know that blog posts should be original content and at least 300 words if not more. I know the Rainmakers understand all of this. If you are reading this, you most likely make time in your week for blogging.

When I do my seminars and webinars on blogging, everybody gets really excited about the possibilities and the only push-back I usually hear is their lack of available time to consistently blog. Of course, as we build our businesses, we get slammed and weeks go by.

Website vendors understand the power of blogging so they are making that technology available on their rental websites.

Sidebar - Of course on a rental real estate website, if you change website providers you may lose your historical content retention.

As a "solution" to Realtor's not having the time to participate in blogging, and knowing that ANY content makes a website look better, a few companies have come up with some content creation technologies. Sounds really cool to the BUSY agent because their blog will have content, but most likely the posts will have ZERO SEO value due to "Duplicate Content".

I watched a webinar the other day where automated blogging was pitched as an SEO tool. The website vendor creates blogging content that autoposts to their clients blog pages and they have code that will LOCALIZE the post by inserting [CityName] and other unique code based data insertions. Just because the post has been localized, does not prevent it from being labeled as duplicate content by the search engines.

I went to the website of the agent that was being featured. I selected one sentence from the post, pasted it into Google with quotes and did a search. That sentence was found within hundreds of websites created by this vendor. How is this a good thing?

1) Blogging is a really good thing

2) Original content can rock your SEO

3) Automated content may make your site look good, but most likely will have no positive effect on your SEO.

In a future post, I will address a few super cool FREE technologies that will rock your blogging world.

Chris, I disagree with the number of words.

People I know who read blogs and follow me tell me if I am rambling past 100 words it is way to long.

Good evening CJ Hays ,

Congratulations on the well deserved featured post! I too agree that automation is easy ...I'm like Bill "I only want to blog about stuff that if someone calls me, I KNOW about it because I wrote it, not because I shared something some service provided me."

Hi CJ and I am so glad that this was featured.  Real estate is a people business...the commodity that you're selling is YOU.  And the way people will relate to you is if what you write comes from your words.  What a dysfunction it would be if someone called a person because of their blog and then the person answering was nothing like the person in the blog!  Well done!

I only heard the other day that there were companies that provide content and people that did this, I didn't realize this was a common practice actually.  I do like the re-blog feature that Active Rain provides though. -Kasey

A few years ago one of my clients had opted in to get short sale blog posts. Wanting unique content, he sent them to me to re-write and alter before posting them.

One day, out of curiousity, I Googled the first sentence of one of the posts he sent me. I stopped looking after finding dozens of instances of that exact same post - but what shocked me was that I found a dozen or more of them right here on Active Rain.

I don't want to put information on my web site that I did not author. Writing our own content is harder; it takes thought and time, but it's authentic.

Yes, unfortunately most realtors (and small business owners for that matter) don't get this.  They just want the low price and they don't take the time to understand that while they've paid less, they've gotten next to nothing.

CJ Hays Your post is correct in a big way. I consider these duplicated posts as nothing more than spam, particularly when they are published repeatedly by the same person multiple times. AR seems to endorse this practice though as it continues despite my reports of these posts as spam.

I think content creators had a really good and really bad idea at the same time. When I first realized such a service existed, I was tempted to investigate the thought at the forefront of my mind was "where else would this same content be posted" and immediately I just didn't give it another thought.

It's very time consuming for me to generate blog posts...writing doesn't come easy or naturally to me. It makes no sense to me, however, to have a service provide my posts. If my name is on it, it's going to be my material.

Congratulations on the well deserved feature!

Yes, CJ, Blogging can be one's Best Friend when it's original content. I have never been a fan of those automated generated posts. You can never develop your own voice, and I believe your audience wants to hear your thoughts and ideas on various topics.

The essense of blogging is personal commentary - automated, duplicate content is anything but. They shouldn't be allowed to call it blogging and market it as such.

It's similar to the paid Facebook newsfeed. I followed quite a few of my ActiveRain friends' business pages but am now hiding a few and may unfollow because it's the same content everywhere! Be personal - that's what social media is all about!

These are all good points.  Something I might add is that if you hire a ghostwriter for your posts, be sure they're providing original content - not spun from another post.
