Such an interesting topic and one I've thought about many times! I can think of at least ten reasons why this is the career for me. And the 'challenge' is...which one to write about??
I love all the interesting people I have met who have become good friends. That's the #1 perk of this career. When I look at my circle of close friends, who I really enjoy spending time with and 'have my back' if I need someone--many of them I met through real estate.
I remember following up on a referral from a neighbor -- he told me his co-worker and wife wanted to move to Brookside (where I live). I sent the prospect Alex a note, inviting him to lunch. He accepted. We spent about ten minutes talking business and the rest of the conversation centered around current events, theater (he played a lead in one of my favorite plays!), our backgrounds, his novel writing side business, and laughing--we just clicked! That lunch was 11 years ago. We are still close and every so often I babysit his darling little girl. That's Alex on the left, with the carrot.
Another good friend I met at an open house is Judy. She hired me to sell her house and help her buy another one. We just knew we would keep in touch and remain friends. That was several years ago as well--actually, in 2015, I had two more transactions with her! I"ve been to her son's wedding, met her grandkids, and we regularly meet for lunch or dinner to discuss everyday life. She is wonderful and I always enjoy our time together.
As I get older I appreciate these special friendships so much..and at the start of every year, I think: who am I going to meet through my job this year that I click with? What new friends are coming my way? It's a great feeling and the best perk of this job.
