Rancho Penasquitos is a community at the juncture of Highway 56 and Highway 15, east of highway 15 and north and south of Highway 56. Known as the 56 Corridor in San Diego this is a wonderful master planned community in the Poway School District. Rancho Penasquitos is zip code 92109. It’s located south of 4SRanch, east of Sabre Springs and Carmel Mountain Ranch, north of Mira Mesa and west of Carmel Valley and Torrey Highlands.
Peñasquitos means little cliffs in Spanish. Rancho Peñasquitos is named after the first Mexican land grant, Rancho Santa Maria de Los Peñasquitos. It’s called “PQ” for short by us locals. There are many nice neighborhoods in a hilly setting and since the community has been there since the 1970’s and 1980’s there’s lots of mature landscaping and large trees. It’s a very picturesque area. The main shopping area is the Rancho Penasquitos Towne Center with a Vons grocery store, Right Aid, restaurants and shopping. This area also has one of the best Christmas Lights or Holiday Lights shows in San Diego County called Christmas Card Lane. This is by Oviedo Street off of Black Mountain Road west of Black Mountain Middle School.
