Traffic Cameras on Maryland School Buses

Traffic cameras on school buses in Montgomery County, Maryland are automatically ticketing over fifty owners a day for illegally passing stopped buses. The fine is $125 and is payable by the registered owner. If they take the ticket to court, they could receive up to a $250 fine.

Thousands of registered owners have been ticketed in Maryland and bills are pending to increase the fines. Driving carelessly can endanger lives and can be expensive as well. Smart drivers will obey the law. Take care when driving near school buses.

I know that cameras made a difference in the UK, they installed them around villages in the UK and it causes people to slow down through the villages, or at least near the cameras. having them on board a bus I think is a good idea for student safety.

For sure this should curb the appetite of drivers who like to chance the rules of life. These are our children; we must take special care.

That's a great idea!  Just the other day a woman on Oahu was run over by a tour bus!

I have a friend, who lost a young daughter, in an accident that involved a school bus.  The girl had exited the school bus, and was crossing the street in front of the bus, when she was hit by a car that ignored the flashing lights on the bus.  I think the traffic cameras on the Maryland school buses is a good idea.

Hi Roy.  I wish they would implement these cameras locally as well.  We have many that don't stop for school buses.

If your school buses are not equipped with traffic cameras, this is something that you may wish to recommend. The fines will far exceed the costs of the cameras and children will be safer.

Speeding in school zones or passing a stopped school bus should be a big fine.

We have a beautiful Tuesday morning in Maryland. Chef Dolores has decided to defer her dinner plans and is heading to the golf course at Montgomery Country Club.

Love, love, love this idea. They are just starting a version of this in my county, speeding in the school zone. I know they will get rich in front of a couple schools I pass every day because nobody knows how to slow down.
