Intuition - one reason why I am not worried about Zillow

I am a huge fan of automation and technology, but we are a long ways away from being outsourced as Realtors.  For example, I use Google Alerts to help me keep track of what is happening on line for Boise Idaho real estate.  Therefore, I have a Google Alert set up specifically for "Boise Real Estate".  Today, even though Zillow dominated the top four results, I am not too worried.

The fourth on the list of top sites for Boise real estate today on Google was for "83701 Real Estate Agents".  I love the summary:

because the Boise real estate market is unique

The 83701 zip code is for P.O. Boxes only!  There are 25 pages of Realtors that show up ready to help.  Should I feel sorry for my competitors that don't understand online marketing that are paying for "Preferred Placement" and advertising on Zillow in zip code 83701?  According to HomeTownLocator.com; there are "0" single family addresses and "0" multi-family addresses in Zip Code 83701!

homes in zip code 83701

I recognize that I can not compete with the likes of Zillow to show up on in elusive "First page of Google".  Instead, I provide my clients in Boise, Idaho with first class real estate service and my 25 years of intuition.  In turn, they refer me to their friends and neighbors who are looking for a Realtor in Boise.  I prefer to show up on someones' referral list instead of a search engine.

If you are looking for a Realtor in Boise, you should shop around.  Google me and then compare the results for another agent you may be interviewing.  I think you will see a huge difference in the results!

Jim ... I like what you said that you provide clients in Boise, Idaho with first class real estate service and my 25 years of intuition.

Your "Intuition" - is like "my sense" - and I rely upon that each and every day to help our friends and real estate clients here at Irvine and Orange County CA.

I am concerned about Zillow because this is a fight about data control and who owns and distributes it as the prime location.

Joe Pryor I am concerned about a lot of things companies like Zillow are doing to disrupt our industry.  One thing we have done in our MLS is requiring Zillow to remove our photos off their feeds once a home is sold.  It is part of our Perpetual Data agreement.  I highly encourage all brokers and MLS's incorporate something like it!

Jim - Zillow will never have a personal and physical presence in our local markets, and that is the main difference. They are just a website with data and information.

Troy Erickson it is interesting how they want to outsource it back to us for a premium.  I think we should be charging Zillow for our feeds from our MLS.  They are making millions off our data.

Good post, but our data is not just on Zillow, we compete with every large brokerage that is fighting to be on page one as well. Maybe the P.O. Box realtors are just a move to the Tiny House.

Nick & Trudy Vandekar agreed.  The industry is in constant change.  Project Upstream, Realtor.com, Zillow, Big Box Realty, etc.  Even a mobile home has been reinvented and rebranded at a premium called a "tiny house".  I guess it is nouveau cuisine for real estate.

Folks know organic results when they find them..even on Zillow.  Once I stopped paying for my placement and still had the reviews and profile beefed up, that is when the phone rang with ads.

Chris Ann Cleland organic is the way to go.  Guess that also could be part of the nouveau cuisine for Realtors.  I am working on mine which is why I am back to blogging and trying to not feel guilty asking my clients to review me.

First Class Service should be the focus of buyers and sellers, who are buying or selling what is likely one of their largest assets.

I agree Myrl Jeffcoat yet isn't it amazing how many buyers/sellers don't interview more than one agent?
