Wow, if you're looking for a great roadside food stand in Kihei, check out this place along South Kihei Road on Saturdays and Wednesdays! 10:00 am to 4:30. They go by the name of Maui Rotisserie Chicken on Yelp, but the truck says Huli Huli Chicken & Ribs. Huli Huli is Hawaiian for "turn, turn" or you know, rotisserie.
The menu is really simple, which makes it easy to decide... CHICKEN or RIBS. With a side of 2 scoops of white rice of course, and some corn. You can go whole hog and get a full rack of ribs for $25, or just keep it simple with the rib plate for $10. You can't beat that! Likewise with the roast chicken, get the whole chicken for $13, or the 1/2 chicken plate for $10. Wow. I'll take both! Wait, you can get the combo plate with chicken AND ribs for $10 too. If you're not so hungry try the mini plate with 1/4 chicken, rice and corn for just $7. Now that's a plate lunch like they used to make - good and cheap.
It's no wonder they line up for half an hour before the place even opens up. We got there at 3:00 in the afternoon and they were still lined up because the cooks were grilling as fast as they could to meet the demand. Totally worth the wait as you're parked right next to a narrow strip of beach in North Kihei. The scenery is mellow, and the smell of grilling meats is enticing.
Warning... It's greasy and salty, and so goooood! You'll have to take it to go as there's no real seating area. Grab your bag and sit on the beach across the street to enjoy the views and the kau kau.
