Buyers don't want free money?

Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Suburban

Hey, Buyers don't want free money!

Lately, I have been working with a loan officer that has been having some great luck with buyer down payment assistance money.  He is offering a few programs that others are not & that kind of money just doesn't come around all that often.

So .... don't you think that buyers WANT this info?  I'm saying, they're saying 'MEH'.  Let's3 eyed fish throw in some shoulder shrugs to boot here.

So at open houses when I suggest they take 3 sheets stating the program benefits & the criteria (yes, the fine print so to speak) no wants to even TOUCH the papers!

Remember the old 'cooties' .... that's what it reminds me of.  Boys don't want to touch girl's stuff & vice versa as it's got the 'cooties'.

BUT WAIT .....

There's more!

When I ask them if they wouldn't like some down payment help the buyers are looking at me like I've got 3 wonderfully mascaraed eyes.  So I'm offering help, you have to qualify & you don't even want to see if you can?

Some of these programs offer a certain percentage like you put down 1% and the lender gives you 2%.  Is that not found money?  Isn't that what the public wants is some help?

I guess not .... I bat my eyelashes in disbelief.

Consumers think then they are committed and you will press them to buy before they are ready because they see you as a salesperson I guess. Alternatively they are not really interested in buying just out checking out homes.

Some folks just can't get past that...if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. That's a shame, because sometimes there are great deals to be had.

Welcome to my world, Lyn Sims ... suffice it to say, there is a credibility problem.  (Some of it earned ... but much of it not.)  It's an uphill battle to get clients to overcome their fears ... and gain their trust these days.  It can be a bit disheartening, but we keep on plugging.  For those that do listen, the rewards can be great ...

That's kind of crazy.  You't think they would at least take the papers and read it over later.

You would think that would be a welcome mat to owning a house....and then there is the suspicious side of people that puts them in their own way...
