Real Estate Broker/Owner with Cortiers Real Estate

Are you wanting to build your next home, but don’t really know where to start? It seems like there a millions things to consider before you can make any progress. Don’t stress, here are some tips to help you start!

  • Look at various floor plans

Are you wanting a one story or two story? How many bedrooms? Open kitchen? Homes nowadays consist of lavish floor plans which you may not even thought of! It is important to choose a floor plan that will work best for you.

  • Find an experienced agent.

It is important to connect with an agent that has experience with home builders. An agent will be crucial in teaching you how to structure your offer to a home builder. They will have the experience to know what will be the best incentives to the builder while also keeping your best interests in mind.

  • Do your research.

Does the home builder that you consider using have a history of adding extra costs, being late with completion, etc. is the home builder a company that you can trust based on past relationships? If you do your research on a home builder before you commit, it will save the hassle of dealing with a mediocre builder.

  • Be sure to get everything in writing and read the fine print.

Contracts are a big part of building a home, make sure to put the time into truly understanding what the contract says so that you are able to enforce it. The last thing you need when building a home is a problem with liability from the contractor. Know what you are signing!

These four tips are crucial to your home building experience. Although there is much more to consider, make sure you have these tips crossed off your list.
