Disable Smart Home Technology When You Sell Your Home
This great information from Jan Green! We all need a reminder about the new technology in so many of the homes we work with! Thanks Jan!!
Recently, an article in USA Today featured something that might be forgotten in a real estate sale. The advent of Smart Home Technology is yet another item to disconnect when selling your home. We know to disconnect utility company services when we sell our homes, but now we must also remember to Disable Smart Home Technology When You Sell Your Home.
The article shares exactly why this is very important. Imagine setting your thermostat only to have it revert back to a different setting! It's as if your home is occupied by ghosts or maybe you don't know how to set your thermostat? Or maybe there was a problem with the furnace?
Except in the article the new owners was setting a thermostat he no longer owned. Apparently, he owned a smart home system in his former house and the new home had one, too. Making the switch to a different thermostat is critically important.
There are also other smart home technologies in existence today that should also be reset. Your alarm system, lighting, security cameras and systems, television, internet, and any other number of technologies available in today's high tech world.
For these reasons, a smart home checklist was created for realtors by Chad Curry with the Online Trust Alliance. Seldom do we realtors think of this end stage transition for a new buyer. The Smart Home Checklist can be accessed here to use as a reminder during the sale of a home to ensure that systems are either deactivated or reset for new owners.
So don't forget to Disable Smart Home Technology When You Sell Your Home. The new owner will appreciate it.
I'm definitely adding this checklist as a reminder for home sellers to process this transfer.
