It’s Opening Day at the Carlsbad Flower Fields in Carlsbad CA
The famous and popular Flower Fields in Carlsbad CA opened today, March 1. This is a photo of the fields in full bloom from a prior year, but it’s a bit early in the season to see how beautiful the fields will be this year when they are in full bloom.

The Carlsbad Flower Fields are a very popular tourist attraction and have been for 60+ years, with around 50 acres of extraordinary color that seem to get better and better. I love watching the transformation of the brown dirt hillside to green to the vibrant colors of the Ranunculas, and then back again year after year.
The Carlsbad Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch are only open for a few months annually, and this year will remain open until Mother’s Day, May 14. It’s a wonderful opportunity to see an amazing collection of flowers on a hillside overlooking the ocean, as well as other floral displays.
Here’s a taste of what you will see and experience at The Flower Fields in addition to the fields themselves:
Sweet pea maze
Orchid greenhouse and a historic poinsettia display
Special events including Kids Day, Blue Day, multiple music events, arts and crafts days, and the special Mother’s Day Celebration on Closing Day, May 14th
School tours and programs
An American Flag of flowers blooming on the south side of the fields
Educational water-wise farming model
Demonstration garden with ornamental and edible plants
Visitors can enjoy walking through the fields or opt for an antique tractor wagon ride to really appreciate the beauty of Carlsbad’s beautiful Flower Fields up close.
The Carlsbad Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch are easily visible from the I-5 Freeway – just look to the east - at the Palomar Road Exit at 5704 Paseo del Norte (look for the windmill) adjacent to the Carlsbad Premium Outlets Mall.
The best vantage point, in my opinion (AND IT’S FREE!!), is looking down on the fields from Armada Drive, with the Carlsbad windmill and 180 degree views of the ocean.
