Free Entrance Days to National Parks

National Parks 10 Free Entrance Days How many times have you said to yourself (or anyone who would listen) "where does the time go?"  Well before time gets away, you may wish to consider a visit to a National Park or two (near or far) for your next vacation or long weekend.   There is something for every interest and every age.

For over 100 years public lands have been enjoyed by campers, hikers, historians and outdoors folks of all ages.  Historic battlefields, monuments, parks, scenic rivers and trails and the White House are properties of the NPS.  All 52 states plus the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands have NPS properties waiting for your visit.

As reported in 2015 by the National Park Service (NPS) the top 4 most visited places are the Blue Ridge Parkway (Virginia & North Carolina), Golden Gate National Recreation Area (CA), the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (Tennessee & North Carolina)  and the Lincoln Memorial (Washington DC).

There are only 10 National Park free entrance days in 2017.    Two of those days have already passed  - Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Presidents' Day.

April 15-16 and 22-23:  Weekends of National Park Week

August 25:  National Park Service Birthday

September 30:  National Public Lands Day

            November 11-12:  Veterans Day Weekend

Did you know that the National Park Service offers free passes to active duty military and citizens with permanent disabilities year round?   120 national parks charge fees and the others are free all of the time

To help you locate a park to explore, visit: and you will also find  suggestions, maps, basic information and calendars.   Exploring online is fun too. Have you heard of any of these BIGS?  Big Hole, Bighorn Canyon, Little Bighorn, Big Bend or Big Thicket?

While free entrance days are limited, park fees are reasonable and Visit a National Park this year a visit to any national park is an excuse for an enjoyable day.  Philanthropy, your tax dollars and visitor pass fees help to fund and protect our nation's expansive and valuable asset.  Don't let time get away from you.  Free entrance days are coming up!

By the way, the price of Lifetime Senior National Park Service Passes is getting a major bump....from $10 to $80 August 27, 2017.  If someone you know would enjoy the discount, be sure to share this information.
