Hey mister, can you help a dog out?

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Saint Francis Property Santa Rosa, CA 01368633

Thinking about getting a puppy or dog for yourself, or the family? Consider getting a Beagle from Northbay Beagle Rescue. I know the founder, and she accepts beagles from around the country. Lots come from the south (Mississippi, Alabama etc).

She gets them in batches of 2-8 weekly. I have 2 beagles of my own so I volunteer to foster them at my house if Pam runs out of room. They range in age from puppy to senior. Seems the majority are 3yrs – 7 yrs.

Take my word that beagles are the sweetest, kindest dogs. They love to be held and touched. Generally, they are great walkers (on leash) and love socializing at the local dog park. In my opinion, the only downside is that they are ruled by their noses. That means it’s hard to keep them out of the trash, off the counter, and if they get out, frequently they won’t come when they are called. The cure… if you want a beagle, you need to have a secure place for your kitchen garbage can. You need a completely fenced yard at least 4’ high that a beagle can’t jump over, and you need to pay attention to them. They will want to put their heads in your lap as soon as you sit down. They are hounds so most bay when they are excited. Baying sounds like “Arrrrroooooooo” vs. “woof “or “bark”. It’s cute, and most people at the dog park laugh when mine start baying as they chase and play with other dogs.

If you are interested in adopting a beagle, or just fostering one like me, you should contact Pam at Rescue for Northbay Beagles: 707.360.7539.

My parents had a beagle before I was in the picture and all I remember them saying about "Bennie" was he never stayed at home, that beagles like to roam and follow their nose. Invisible fencing or living on a big open space like a rural farm could cure that. Cute pups.. Snoopy and Lucy their names? They take you for walks and put you in better shape. Woof.

They look adorable, and you've certainly presented the pluses and challenges of owning a beagle. I hope your post gets some more of them adopted!

We used to raise and hunt our beagles when I was a young guy at home. Everything you stated about their behavior is correct and you forgot to include the howling in the middle of the night!

This is truly a wonderful thing you are doing. Only one caveat, I have had a cousin who has 2 beagles and unfortunately they were the exceptions. Not nice, skiddish and when I was around them, a pain. cheers cvc

They are friendly dogs and have good dispositions. I don't know that I could get used to their howling though.
