One last time...

Real Estate Agent with Jameson Sotheby's International Realty

"They shall sit under their own vines and fig trees, and no one shall make them afraid"

Not a phrase I'd heard before, but apparently it's from the new Testament, and was often quoted by George Washington.  Often in defense of gentlemen farmers and their farms, such as Mt. Vernon, in defense of them staying home to stoke the fires and feed the soldiers from their efforts, as opposed to being soldier.

It's quoted in the Broadway musical Hamilton, when George Washington is talking about retiring from the presidency and returning to Mt. Vernon for his twilight years.

It seems somewhat appropos to real estate, as well.  Everyone should have their own vines and fig trees... and we, as Realtors, are charged with assisting them in that endeavour... right?

Alan,  Yes, it does fit for real estate.  I've read both the old and the new testament. The old is very dark and sad ... too many animal sacrifices for me.

I've never heard this one either and - hey anything to do with vines and wine sounds good to me!  Mt Vernon was a nice place for him to go back too - love that place.

Hi Alan - Right now I wouldn't mind sitting under my vines, if I had vines, sipping a glass or two of their bounty - and I might even nibble on a fig or two, but I don't have any of them either : (

Alan- I like the weaving of this into real estate and what you do.  I was not familiar with the quote. Glad you visited Jefferson's Monticello...what a Renaissance man, but if you get a chance go visit Mt Vernon!

Very profound observation, Alan May ... and one made very appropriately.  You can't go wrong quoting or following the Bible ... or George Washington ...
