The recent Inman article “Why Home Selling Will Never Be the Same,” got me thinking. In a world of instant everything, are we about to make the jump to instant home sales? Several newish companies are betting that we will, and investors are putting up loads of money for them to put money where their mouths are. Companies like Opendoor, OfferPad and Knock are leading the charge into the techno house flipping business. They are offering sellers a closing so fast, as little as 72 hours, it will leave your head spinning.
There are “horror” stories like massive fees and sellers getting less than market value for their homes, but putting that aside are they providing a real value? Some argue when it comes to homes most sellers don’t value speed. On the other side, when speed is coupled with guarantees of price and closing that adds a real sweetness to the deal.
I don’t see people’s desire for instant gratification going anywhere, but will that transfer to the Real Estate industry? We need to keep a close eye on the situation, and if the answer is yes, then we need to find ways to become early adopters. What do you think? You can read the full Inman article here.
