In our incredibly busy world, sometimes large projects can seem very overwhelming, and oftentimes we just say “forget it!” and step away. Do you ever feel that way also?
I know for me, my husband travels a lot for work, has little free time, and when he is home, lots of projects are not his idea of fun. So, in order for me to get things going and feel a sense of accomplishment, I have found that breaking things in to smaller tasks make me feel SO much more accomplished!
This week, in one hour each I was able to:
- Buy some spring flowers
- Plant some spring flowers
- Put together a door wreath
And I was very happy!
I knew I wanted to do these things, so I purchased the flowers on the way to visit my mom at the Assisted Living facility. It only took me about 20 minutes at the plant store to select some basic plants. My pansies should take me through till the hot sun hits around June, and the white “frosty”– “Dusty Miller” plants should come back every year. Now we’ve had a cold snap and I have to keep a close eye on them so they don’t freeze!
Regarding the wreath, I had a straw wreath I had dismantled from Christmas, and after buying some very nice looking silk flowers from the Dollar Tree, I cut the stems down by a few inches and attached them with floral pics and wire (bought at Michael’s). Before I mounted them, I had wrapped the wreath in some basic 2.25” burlap ribbon.
I had one flower left over and stuck it down in a mason jar until I figured out what to do with it, and last weekend when we came home from our ski trip, my husband thought it needed watering! Ha ha! That’s my kind of handy man!
I always thought at this phase in my life, things would be smooth sailing with lots of extra time, but I have discovered it is filled with weekend visits from my son and his family, visits to check on mom, and so many other activities. So, I’d rather have a less-than-perfect house, and enjoy the family, the manageable projects, and making great memories!
Let me hear from YOU – I love to hear what my readers and clients are up to! I’ve also really been enjoying helping clients redesign their spaces, rooms, and offices. Pictures to come soon….My favorite thing is seeing folks HAPPY with great results!
