I don't need any help staging

By
Home Stager with Seneca Home Staging

Someone recently sent me a message that started "Hello, I don't need any help staging, I would like to choose pieces for dining and livingroom furniture only. Can you give me a ballpark price?"

Don't need a home stager?

I was confused. Why would this person be contacting a home stager if she didn't need any help staging? It would be like someone saying to a real estate agent, "I don't need any help selling my house, I just need you to put your sign in my yard."

I was curious and wanted to know what she wanted from me.

So I replied, and got another message back; "I'm reaching out because it's annoying setting up my furniture that we use to stage our flips." No kidding--that's why people hire me to do it. Not only is it a lot of work, it's also nearly impossible to find a furniture company in our region that will do short-term rentals, so good luck with that. I have a special arrangement with a local rental company that I do business with on a regular basis. If you just want furniture, you're going to probably need to hire a professional home stager.

I sent her my vacant staging pricing, quickly explained the process, and invited her to contact me when she's ready to proceed. Hopefully she will realize that the service I provide is indeed valuable, and she will agree that she does need help staging after all!

Bonus: That photo is of me looking confused. Try to guess what I was looking at in the comments.

Love the post Janelle Ancillotti , the look reminds me of that old Saterday Night skit with Steve Martin where they are looking up in the skay and debating "What the heck is that".

Haha-loved Steve Martin on SNL! Yeah, I definitely was thinking something along those lines.

Janelle-I totally understand your confusion!  I have had similar things happen to me.  I have finally learned to laugh it off  and move on!  There are so many people who just don't understand what we do.  I don't let them frustrate me anymore.  I try to focus on clients who "get it" and I try to educate those others who are truly open minded and interested.  I hope she comes around so you can show her how valuable professional staging can be!  Good luck-I hope it works out well!

Sometimes I feel like people only think we put up a sign too so I understand.

Janelle Ancillotti I get it too.  Sometimes people think all we do is open doors.  Grrr!

Janelle, have had the same comments from Sellers, and when they saw the difference, they had to change what they said about staging!

Seems like this person was denying her need and expressing it all at the same time, Janelle Ancillotti ... perhaps she just can't admit she needs help?  Of any kind??  Hope you did hear back from her and you're busy working on her behalf ...

Just as a side note:  Such a beautiful area you live in!  We visited Syracuse a few times while our son attended law school there.  Definitely going to have to get back soon ...

hi Janelle- Sorry I missed this one. I get a lot of calls from people who want to sell their furniture to me to use in staging and I get calls from some who want me to bring furniture in for a day's photo shoot but never one like you had. I truly feel many do not understand what staging is.

Haha, I get those too Kathy! They usually start out like "We're going to be selling our parents' home soon, and it has all this great antique furniture, and we were thinking...."

I think you are better off she doesn't rethink and call you back. I suspect she would be difficult to work with. To say the least.

I knew you were watching something on a TV in your photo, but I don't know what!

As for the person who claims they don't need staging... the person doth protest too much!

Haha--I've always liked that line from Hamlet. Alright, I'll give away the answer since it's been quite awhile since I posted this: I was in a bar in St. John Virgin Islands watching Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest on ESPN. It was mesmerizing and incredulous.
