Throwback Thursday - Reading

I love to read! The first time I picked out my own book was when I was 4 years old. Because I was good my mother took me to the Toy Store to pick out any toy I wanted. For me, it was like Disneyland! There were big toys, small ones, shiny toys, and dolls for boys and girls.   I found doll houses, stuffed animals, games, planes, trains, and things to make chains around my neck in sparkly jewels. But what I decided on was a book. It was a Hans Christian Andersen Fairy Tale Book. I remember my mother saying, "Are you sure that's what you want?" I just had to have it and I said, "Yes!"

For me, good reading is a necessity! I like stories that keep me interested. When it comes to reading, I have a thirst for knowledge! The story doesn't necessarily have to have a happy ending, as long as there is closure and it keeps me interested. I never leave home without a book. You just never know when you have idle time and I prefer to read an actual book over a Kindle or something online. It's against my principle to be bored. I always felt, boredom was pointless! A good mystery book or adventure story leaves me hanging! I can't put the book down! Autobiographies are very intriguing! Stories that inspire me are what I crave most. When I want to learn something new, I just have to find the perfect book.

When it comes to Real Estate, I continuously read books on the topic to keep current. My hobby is reading and photography. The last three books I bought and read are illustrated below. The reason why I chose Three Days In January is because I accidentally stumbled upon the house where President Eisenhower was born in Dennison, Texas. Because nobody ever talks about him, I wanted to learn more. Growing Up Digital was recommended to be by the Inn Keeper at Fairview Inn in Austin. It was a fascinating book and has caused me to read additional books! I chose Anita Diamant's Day After Night because it is the same author who wrote The Red Tent. My daughter recommended Red Tent to me years ago and I was eager to read more by the same author.

Everyday I read, I feel lucky! Words consume me with passion, understanding, knowledge, wisdom, and entertainment. Happy reading one and all!

Nina Hollander - Your whole comment could be the introduction to a great novel! Your lines are filled with vivid imagery!

A book opens up my world to a whole new way of thinking! I admire and respect good authors.

Have a wonderful day!!!

Patricia Feager ~ hi Patricia... all of this is very vivid in my mind's eye and while I am good with words, I don't have the patience to really write a novel. I love reading novels because I'm so in awe of anyone who can spin a wonderful story that captures you from the first page and keeps you captured to the last page.

Nina Hollander - You're a woman of many talents. Reading is good for the soul! I also appreciate a memorable story. A published author, I am not and probably never will be, but I write anyway. I read and write for me and I like strong characters and an author's vivid use of language. When something resonates with me, I'm hooked!

Like you we both are voracious readers. We got rid of cable, because we hardly watched TV 📺. Bot of us read before we go to sleep. A

Patricia, reading is a great hobby to have, I think it not only adds to our knowledge but brings happiness.
When I was pregnant with my son, I would read to him every day, some thought I was nuts. That went on after he was born. He has always been an exceptional writer, he just started writing his first book, so proud of him and can't wait to read it.

I try to read a novel or two every week.

You should be writing books as well as reading them.

HI Patricia Feager - thank you for sharing your passion with us.  I enjoy reading, however I always fall asleep. I have been like this since high school.   I would study the same pages over and over again....! Though, if I go away on vacation and lay by a pool, I can stay awake and finish a book in 3-4 days. I bring my kindle and that helps alot.

I also LOVE to read! I often read before bed with my own nightlight. Sometimes I get so caught up in a story that my husband will wake up and wonder what I'm still doing awake! Wonderful to know there are still others who love reading and books as much as I do.

Patricia I could relate to the younger version of you as a kid. I was one of those kids that love to read - a lot. I'd read 5 or 6 books a week. My Mom used to say my nose was always in a book (in a good way)!  You make me miss reading books!!  I find that by the time I've read a lot of posts I don't take the time to read a lot of books anymore.  You've inspired me to read books more often again - thanks!

Hi Patricia - Like you, I have been a reader since childhood - my parents use to tell me to put down my book and go out and play, and I had the reading with a flashlight under the covers thing down pat. I still read for an hour or two every night before bed, and I think it's the best habit I've ever had.

Our grandson is ... and I say this with pride ... a total bookworm, Patricia Feager.  Like you, he'd rather have a book .. or visit the library than almost anything else in this world.  The kid can CONCENTRATE!

I'm hoping he learns how to write as beautifully as you do too ...

One of my favorite t-shirts. I too never leave the house without something to read. I have my kindle in my purse at all times and many actual books in my trunk. I read while I'm waiting to pick up kids, during their appointments, or whenever I can get a few pages in.
