| Tomorrow marks a long-awaited event for Alpharetta -- the opening of the Verizon Wireless With the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, performing the inaugural concert, which will include "a program of Broadway favorites [and] Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" with the Marcus Roberts trio. There is a grand opening reception starting at 5:15 PM, followed by the concert at 8:00 PM. (Tickets are $21-$75 -- click here for more ticket information.) The state-of-the-art venue seats 12,000 (with room for another 5,000 on the lawn) and is located in Alpharetta, Georgia, in the northern suburbs of Atlanta, minutes from 400 and North Point Mall. According to the Symphony's website, "The amphitheatre is expected to hold diverse events during its inaugural year including concerts, community events and movie nights. Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre is also proud to be the outdoor home to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra." The popular Chastain Park Amphitheatre has, up until now, been Atlanta's premier outdoor summer concert venue, with seating for 6,700. Located in the Buckhead area of Atlanta, Chastain allows for picnic baskets and lawn chairs and is a favorite, but quite a trek for those in the northern suburbs. While the new Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park does not allow private picnic baskets, champagne and wine bottles, lawn chairs and the like, it does have 7,000 seats under cover, which will help with events during inclement weather. You can bring in your own blankets (for lawn seating) , cameras (but no recording devices) and umbrellas.
