On Saturday, March 25th at 8:30 pm local time millions of people across the globe will be switching off non-essential lighting for one hour to observe Earth Hour, the world largest public environment action and I personally am going to be a part of it!
For those of you who don’t know Earth Hour began as a single-city initiative in Sydney Australia in 2007. Over the years it’s grown into a global movement with millions of people participating from more than 7,000 cities and towns in 152 countries/territories across every continent! What an impact this global action makes by everyone switching off lights calling attention to taking responsibility for our environment.
Our building management company, CBRE is a proud Supporter of Earth Hour and encourages us all to take a moment to watch the Earth Hour official video at www.youtube.com/earthhour.
They are right it’s easy to get involved just like some of the world’s most famous man-made marvels and natural wonders, including China’s Forbidden City, the Eiffel Tower, Table Mountain, the Great Pyramids of Egypt, Buckingham Palace, Brazil’s Christ the Redeemer statue, Niagara and Victoria Falls, the Empire State Building and many more global icons. They have stood in darkness as a powerful symbol of landmark environmental action during Earth Hour.
Getting involved is easy:
1. Commit to joining Earth Hour
2. Tune In by inviting friends and family to participate
Stay connected to the conversation by becoming a fan of Earth Hour on Facebook and following @earthhour on Twitter.
3. Turn Out non-essential lighting from 8:30 – 9:30 pm local time on Saturday March 25th
CBRE is encouraging us to participate in our building by switching off all non-essential office lights and unplugging non-essential equipment before leaving the building on Friday and to turn off all lights at our homes during the event. It’s an important step in helping making changes on how we can all reduce our ecological footprint by committing to actions that benefits our planet.
