Harry's Top 5 Reasons Why First Impressions Still Matter

phoenix real estateI know many of us discuss the lack of professionalism in our industry. However, it starts with me on how I conduct myself in my real estate business. First, I still dress to impress when meeting a client for the first time. That is how I was brought up when conducting business. However, I see many other agents with ripped jeans and a pair of old sneakers when discussing real estate business. Hey, if it works for you then more power to you. However, I will continue to dress for success.

Harry's Top 5 Reasons Why First Impressions Still Matter

  1. Clean cut and neatly dressed will always have a better first impression compared to cut off jeans and messed up hair in my opinion.
  2. A firm handshake is still respected in business versus a wimpy handshake
  3. Enthusiasm shows the client that you are still passionate about real estate plus it is contagious
  4. Paying attention to each others body language is vital
  5. Being prepared is always important in obtaining business versus just winging the meeting. Client will feel more confident in your ability to get the job completed.

How are you doing in your real estate business today?

Hi Harry F. D'Elia, when I first became a real estate agent, I dressed in suits as that's what I did in my prior jobs. I soon realized I was way overdressed than my buyer and seller clients so made an adjustment to mirror my clients. Today, I dress business casual, it works in FL.
First impressions last a long time. Thank you for sharing these great tips.

Great points, Harry!  I think that, sometimes, reading each other's body language gets lost.  You're right, it's very important, as it could be stating something entirely different from what they are saying orally.

It's very casual in Wyoming where our Governor is typically in jeans and cowboy boots. I personally don't know if I'll be sitting at the desk all day or out trying to stop a leaking pipe in someone's crawl space, therefore I dress comfortably. If someone wants a suit and tie, I know a couple worthless agents that dress the part. ;)

Warmer climate agents tend to wear less. During a presentation I go there with suite which is something I do at funeral services. I notice recently many wear a shirt and blue jean.

Intero here insists agents dress best and drive for success.  You are warned verbally and they will dismiss you if you drive a Sentra or truck.
