Belinda, I do think a lot of buyers do not take the HOA fees into account (...but they also do not think about the cost of repairs and maintenance...it is kind of a wash).

Good morning, Belinda --- as I was reading the comment by Jeffrey DiMuria 321.223.6253 airRErealty.com, I was reminded of a recent conversation on the topic of HOA fees.  

It matters what is included in that monthly fee and in most single family homes in our area, the gardener, pool service and other costs often make some of those fees look like a bargain.  It's wise to look at what you are getting for that fee along with the type of lifestyle you want.

Very good point Mr. Jacobs!  Included in my HOA fee for my house is trash service. front yard landscape and snow removal.  It is worth every penny.

Yep, those HOA fees can bite you in the behind when it comes to monthly payment limits.  Also, important to note, the number of rentals - you highlight two of the big hidden objections to seemingly affordable condo and townhome purchases.
