The 3 Brands I Trust
Ron and Alexandra Seigel have invited us to share our top 3 brands and why. Tomorrow is the deadline for this challenge, and some extra points, so if you haven’t shared yours time is running out.
I thought this would be easy but it really wasn’t, at least not for me. And perhaps that makes this more of a meaningful challenge, which is all good!
It was kinda fun to think back about brands I have used, some of which have fallen by the wayside because of product or service issues. I’ve had several vendors related to home maintenance I have used over the years in my business and due to significant goofs they, unfortunately, lost me as a client…and potential referrals to buyers and sellers.
I have been a big fan of this natural and organic food grocer, also known as Sprouts Farmers Market, since moving to Carlsbad back in 2005. Sprouts was previously known as Henry’s Farmers Market before the acquisition that I think was completed sometime in 2011. Thankfully, from my perspective, the store did not suffer in any way in terms of quality and consistency of the natural and organic produce that has been a hallmark of the retailer for years. It just took us a while to stop calling it Henry’s but everyone knew what was meant. And we know lots of other fans!
Henry's Farmers Market, now Sprouts, in La Costa Carlsbad in 2009
We love all the fresh produce that we have here in the Carlsbad area, and often seek things out at the local weekly Farmers Market in the Village, but Sprouts remains at least a weekly stop for organic fruits and vegetables, as well as other products including homeopathic. The pricing is pretty favorable, although it varies as one would expect. And we’ve always found the employees to be very helpful and friendly. We’ve been to probably a dozen Sprouts stores in our travels in SoCal and the consistency is always there. Now that’s a brand I trust!
I’m on my second Hyundai in the last 10 years and remain a big fan. Neither car was new, although the first one, despite being a couple years old, was pristine and had very low mileage. We have continued to have our Hyundais serviced at the local dealership, North County Hyundai of Carlsbad, and have always been pleased with their service and the manner in which we have been treated at every appointment, and cars were ready when promised, unless we were called and advised about issues that showed up that could cause a delay. They are good about adivising abtou potential issues but there is no pressure around upselling. Granted my experience is with one dealership but I suspect it's true elsewhere.
The Advantage Club Card they offer provides a discount on service labor and accessory purchases and is a nice-to-have and we use it often – indeed you are permitted to use it as often as you wish until it expires, but then they issue a new one! We’ve had no issues with our Hyundais other than the standard maintenance (tires, brakes) over the years. When it comes time to buy another we will certainly strongly consider Hyundai! Is it a guarantee? No, I want to keep my options open
We have been loyal fans of Trader Joe’s for many years, probably about 16 now, perhaps longer. In the early years back in Boston, in addition to our own personal shopping, we used Trader Joe’s for providing food and beverages for our art gallery receptions 6 times a year. We laughingly called them Cater Joe’s!! We could always find interesting and healthy items to bring into the gallery, along with a range of beverages, including wine, and we rarely went home after a busy evening with any leftovers, and always received compliments.
The staff is always helpful and friendly and we have always been thrilled with the quality of products, especially their produce. And certainly one favorite, for me at least, at their Peppermint Joe Joe’s at holiday time. OK, I’m a little biased. But they keep up coming back week after week and we’ve never been disappointed.

The central themes for me for all three brands are quality and customer service, something I truly value and strive to always provide in my own business.
This was a fun challenge and interesting to read all the entries about what brands others value and why.
