This morning I got to sit in the rocking chair, holding my 3-month-old, and watch the sunrise. The beautiful outline of the snowcapped mountains silhouetted the crisp blue sky. Contentment and calmness fell over me. I felt happy and at peace.
I love living in Colorado. There is something special, almost magical, about this state that is hard to understand unless you have lived here or visited. This is probably part of the reason so many people are moving here.
My family and I live in Colorado Springs, that is Southern Colorado about an hr. and a half from Denver, our capital. Colorado Springs is a military City. We have the Air Force Academy and the Army base right nearby. It is fun to see all the different cultures milling about, many of them Air Force and Army individuals and families. However, we are also seeing more and more nonmilitary families, retirees and single individuals moving in. One of the reasons so many people are being drawn to Colorado Springs is the outdoor way of life.
We have a ton of parks and trails for hiking and bike riding. One of my family’s favorite things to do on Sunday afternoon is to take a picnic to a nearby park and let the kids run about, hike and explore. We also have White Water Rafting in the Royal Gorge, horseback riding, Balloon rides and fishing. Golf is also a pretty big sport here in Colorado Springs. A big attraction here is the Manitou incline. The Manitou incline is a 1 mile 2000-foot incline. Ok, I have never done this (due to the fact I’d probably keel over and die), but I have heard good and bad things about this incline. I will just warn you, they don’t even allow dogs on this incline. That should tell you something. They also warn you that its takes 3 to 4 hrs for emergency help to get to you. Good luck if you go, but please be careful!
If you visit, don’t forget to at least drive through Garden of the Gods. It is free and beautiful. I will post a link to the park here, (http://gardenofgods.com). We also have an amazing mountain zoo called Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. They have recently update and remodeled it. My kids love going here! Especially since they get to feed the Giraffes!! There are many more places I haven’t mentioned. For example, the railroad museum, plane museum and hundreds of camping spots and wild animal viewing areas. There is no way a person would be bored here.
Colorado Springs is the perfect place to retire to, raise a family, vacation and start fresh. One of the projects I am working on as a Realtor ® is a packet of attractions, “must knows “and other important information for my out of town buyers. When we moved here we didn’t know much about the area. I thought Colorado Springs was just a boring, typical, military city. I wish someone had given me a packet of attractions, I would have been more excited about moving here! Now I can’t imagine any other place to be. It is Home.
